Getting Legislation Ready

Well, now is the time for sleigh rides, candy canes, roasting chestnuts, and writing new legislation. All of Maine's newly-elected Representatives and Senators, including myself, will be furiously researching and submitting new legislation or changes to old statutes before the deadline of January 16, 2009 (oficially called cloture). While personally I'd like to be focusing more on the wonderful holiday happenings in Yarmouth and in Maine, I also must set aside time to research which bills and which legislation would best help the people of Yarmouth. So far I've heard from several constituents here in Yarmouth about some issues that they'd like to have resolved with legislation, and ptting together those bills to submit before the deadline. If you're reading this blog, and you have ideas or issues that concern you about current statutes or changes you'd like to see made to the law to Maine, please contact me so we can discuss it soon.

On January 2nd through the 4th, I will be flying to Florida to attend a conference for first time women legislators. On January 7, a Wednesday, I'll be leaving with many other new legislators to go on a three day bus tour of Northern Maine. This will give us a chance to meet some of the manufacturers and small businesses operating in the northern part of Maine, places we may not hear about much here in Yarmouth. Throughout these travels, you can continue to reach me by e-mail at melissainnes@verizon.net, or on my cell phone 318 -8742. I look forward to hearing from you.
