Here's an important correction to my current article in The Notes:
the new tax rate for most Mainers will be 6.5%, and for some Mainers
it will be as low as 4.5%. The Governor submitted a few changes to
the bill, and now the LD number is 1485. The Governor signed it into
law on Friday, June 12th.

Breaking News……The Maine House just enacted the first tax reform package to reduce Mainers income taxes in over 50 years.  This bill has its’ critics, but it does out more money in 89% of Mainers pockets at the end of the year.  This bill was amended by the Governor today, and now moves to the Senate for final passage before going to the Governor’s desk.

Well, the legislative session has definitely stepped up a notch in action these last few weeks before we adjourn.  Right now I am in session in the House Chamber, awaiting a vote on a tax reform bill.  With expediency and luck, the legislature will wrap up its work for this session by next Friday, June 12th.  I will give a full wrap-up after that time, and look forward to giving you the highlights of the session on this blog.
